August, September, October Course dates
We have a limited number of places available in our
August, September and October Day Skipper & Competent Crew/ Introduction to sailing
Courses.
The training will be on board one of our Beneteau yachts, based at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club Newport.We run our courses in two parts to minimise time away from work for participants, to complete the course you will need to attend a total of two weekends, over 6 month period (thus 5 days in total). Additional dates will be schedule in November and December.
The Day Skipper course is ideal for those who are seeking to gain sea going short passage experience and
Competent Crew is ideal for those who are new to sailing.Both are designed to enhance your sailing/boat handling skills and provide you with the knowledge and experience to comfortably and confidently sail the boat in a variety of conditions and sea states. RYA qualifications come with international recognition and are accepted by all the leading Charter Companies as proof for bareboat skipper experience.For further details of courses also see

To obtain either the RYA/YA Day Skipper Practical or Competent Crew qualification you will need to attend a total of 5 days. For Day Skipper students, it is also recommended that you complete the Marine Radio Operators Licence exam which we can organise through your local Marine Rescue NSW Base (estimated cost $180).
Cost of Program
Special Promotion The fee for the 5 day practical course is normally $1400 including GST, under our special promotion, the course fee is just $1200* for both Part One and Two combined – a saving of $200.*Fee can be paid in two installments
The course will be conducted by Phil Darling, RYA Yachtmaster Instructor, Chief Instructor SailTime Newport and we only have 5 students per course to ensure all students get plenty of hands on experience.
We provide all meals and refreshments, you just bring preferred snacks, bedding and wash gear.

To get the qualification you will need to attend two of these sessions – the entire course is mandated at a minimum of 5 days, and it really does take that long to get through the syllabus. Competent Crew candidates focus on winching and helming in safety, whilst gaining an understanding of “how it all works”. Usually just mastering the terminology is a major achievement, as well as the eight knots required for any sailing – as well as the challenge of an introductory offshore passage. More advanced Day Skipper candidates on the same course are trained in boat handling, docking, navigation and sailing strategy as well as undertaking a challenging night-pilotage exercise.
