Crew briefing – joining your boat & what to bring

Our Sailing Courses

All sailing courses, other than Start Yachting, are overnight 2-5 day sailing courses on board a SailTime yacht. All our yachts have a higher level of specification than is normal for a sailing school yacht, and are rigorously maintained to a high standard.

Except in exceptional circumstances and for the Start Yachting course, the yacht will NOT  be day sailing from the sailing school home port. The instructor will plan an itinerary taking into account the ability of the crew, the weather conditions and the requirements to cover the syllabus.

Joining Your Sailing Course

Once you have booked you will receive comprehensive joining instructions. You will usually join the boat either the  evening before  or early morning for the e course start. This will give you a chance to get to know your sailing school boat, to meet your instructor and to discuss the plans for your sailing course.

Living on Board

We provide breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks throughout the course. Our booking form will ask whether you have any special dietary requirements. Depending on the type of sailing course, the weather and the passage plans that the skipper considers appropriate, it may on occassions  be possible to eat ashore in the evenings at participants own expense .

What To Bring

All students are required to wear non-marking-white soled flat footwear. Deck shoes are ideal as they are specifically designed to be non-slip on shiny boat surfaces.

If you are taking a sailing course in the Winter  you may also wish to invest in a pair of sailing boots – these will keep your feet warm and dry.

Please also bring wet weather gear with you for sailing offshore. Sailtime has limted sets of waterproofs avaiable for hire but not boots.
